TEAM 3663- THE SENTINELS

Our Experts and Sharing

We talked to Mary, a retired nurse who has had diabetes for 30 years. She talked to us about diabetes, and showed us one of the two methods of glucose monitoring: finger pricking. Some of us tried this, and found out that it actually hurt a fair bit. This got us thinking about how we could improve people’s lifestyle.

We talked Dr. Alleyne, V.P. of Engineering Indentita Technologies Inc. about the different methods of communicating.

We talked to Sheila Kern, Chairperson of the West Coast Diabetes Association about the current methods of injecting insulin, specifically insulin pumps. We also discussed our solution with her.

We spoke to Bernard Lim, consultant of Life Sciences with JTL Global Ventures, about types of sensors that are currently used for blood-gas readings.

We shared our solution with Mr. Michael C. Riddell PhD. Associate Professor School of Kinesiology and Health Science, York University. He runs a diabetic sports camp for kids along with doing studies with them. He loved our idea as an educator and as a diabetic.

We also talked to Mr. Joseph Y. Lucisano PhD President and CEO of GlySens Incorporated, San Diego, California, about some of the things his company (who have been a similar system to ours that isn’t on the market) has come up with diabetes monitoring.

We presented our project with the general public at a public display in Hopedale mall. As people walked by, we explained the problem with glucose monitoring and how we were solving it.

We shared our project with Michael Cloutier, the CEO of the Canadian Diabetes Association, and told him of the problem with glucose monitoring.

We also shared our ideas on problems and solutions to glucose monitoring in a public display at a FIRST Celebration in Oakville.
